Eleventh Bishop of Utah

From the Standing Committee

Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Diocese of Utah,

On June 13, 2009 the Standing Committee received a memo from the Nominating Committee requesting that a new date be set for the special convention for the election of the Eleventh Bishop of Utah. The Standing Committee concurred with the Nominating Committee to move the date to Saturday, May 22, 2010. Bishop Carolyn has agreed to this new date as well.

Please, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact any member of the Standing Committee.

From the Nominating Committee

Update from the Nominating Committee on the Bishop's search process.

July 21, 2009

In addition to the change of date for the ordination/consecration of the Eleventh Bishop of Utah to November 6, 2010, the Standing Committee has moved the date for the Special Convention to elect our new Bishop to May 22, 2010, the Eve of Pentecost.

The Nominating Committee has been busy with plans for future events to precede this election, and we want everyone to know what to expect in the next few months. We met in June, and will be meeting again on July 25th to complete a number of necessary tasks prior to compiling a Diocesan Profile, publishing the profile, and accepting applications from candidates for Eleventh Bishop of the Diocese of Utah.

First, a fact-finding survey will be distributed to all parishioners and retired and active clergy. The survey will be made available during August, both online and in paper format for those without access to the internet.

This should give everyone ample time to participate. An outside source will conduct the survey. All answers and participants will be anonymous. The survey consultant will present the results to the Nominating Committee.

Next, the members of the Nominating Committee will visit each parish and ministry within the Diocese, including the Diocesan staff. We will present information about the duties and function of a Bishop. We will also gather input about what people want in a candidate for the next Bishop of Utah. All of this assists the committee in designing the Diocesan Profile and in outlining the qualities we seek in the Eleventh Bishop of Utah. These visits will be held in September and October. We will schedule them starting in August.

We are striving to complete the Diocesan Profile by November 29, 2009. We plan to accept candidate applications beginning on January 1, 2010. Dates for the close of applications and the presentation of the slate of final candidates to the Standing Committee will be forthcoming as the process continues. If anyone has further questions or concerns about this process as outlined, please do not hesitate to contact any member of the Nominating Committee via their confidential e-mail addresses at [the utahbishopsearch.org domain, using the following user names]:
